Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA grant details, especially when it comes to changing banking information for their R350 or R370 payments. Let me break down what actually works because the process is different depending on which grant you're on.

If you're getting a permanent grant like old age or disability, you can't do this online - you have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office. Bring your ID (original and copy), and proof of your new bank account (a recent bank statement or official letter from the bank, nothing older than 3 months). They'll give you a form to fill out, and then it takes about 21 working days for the bank to verify everything. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month if you want the change to kick in the next payment cycle, otherwise you're waiting another month.

Now if you're on the SRD grant (the R370 or R350 relief), this one's actually easier because it's all online through the official SASSA SRD portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS, and you update your banking details through that link. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for verification. Just make sure the account is in your actual name - they won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that.

For phone number changes, same deal: permanent grants need an office visit, but SRD grants have an online portal where you can update it. You'll get an OTP sent to your new number to verify. If the online system gives you trouble, you can always call the SASSA helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office in person. Fair warning though - there are fake websites out there pretending to help with this stuff, so always use the official SASSA links.
