I just checked the calendar and it turns out that on March 16th of last year, classes were suspended across all basic education. It's not a random day, but because of Benito Juárez's birthday, although technically his birthday is on the 21st, the law states that it is celebrated on the third Monday of the month. In 2026, that fell exactly on the 16th, creating a three-day long weekend (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday).
The thing is, many people didn't realize this when planning their activities. Basically, students and workers had an extra break without it being an official weekend. After that, the Holy Week vacations started on March 30th and lasted until April 10th, so it was practically almost a month of rest combining both dates.
Many say that classes are suspended too many times, but at least these civic dates have their reason. Did you make good use of those days off?
