One of the craziest theories in the crypto community is who is really behind Bitcoin. Recently, I came across a version that sounds like a thriller: what if Satoshi Nakamoto is Paul Le Roux?

Yes, the very same Paul Le Roux who is in prison. A programmer from Zimbabwe, a cryptography genius, who developed encryption tools and constantly repeated that cryptography is the only weapon of freedom. Sounds like an ideologue who could have created Bitcoin, right?

But here’s where it gets interesting. Le Roux’s full name contains the word 'Satoshi' — Paul Solotshi Calder Le Roux. Coincidence? Maybe. Or maybe not. Plus, the timeline is a bit suspicious: Satoshi disappeared from the project in 2010, and Paul Le Roux was arrested in 2012. Almost immediately after.

Le Roux clearly had the technical skills and motivation to create such a system. He needed anonymous channels for financial flows — Bitcoin fits perfectly. His ideas about privacy are very similar to the philosophy of Bitcoin’s creator.

However, there is a problem. If you look at the code written by Paul Le Roux and the Bitcoin code — they are completely different styles. Le Roux’s code is chaotic, Satoshi’s is orderly and confident. Plus, there’s no evidence that Le Roux ever used Bitcoin for his criminal operations.

In general, the theory that Paul Le Roux is Satoshi Nakamoto is a beautiful one that falls apart upon closer inspection. But the mystery of Satoshi’s identity remains one of the most intriguing in the history of cryptography. And so far, no one can say for sure who he really is.
