I've noticed that many newcomers in crypto often underestimate the importance of proper asset storage. I want to share a cool way to set up a cold wallet on your phone that really works and doesn't require buying a hardware device.

For small amounts, simply being more cautious with hot wallets—MetaMask, Trust Wallet, or other trusted options—will suffice. But if you take your security of mnemonic phrases seriously, then a cold wallet on your phone is a very real option, and here’s how to do it.

What you need: an old iPhone that you no longer use. This will become the basis for your cold wallet on your phone.

Step by step. First, completely reset the iPhone to factory settings. Then delete unnecessary apps—(system apps you can leave)—connect to WiFi, and download imToken or AirGap Vault—both support offline signing. After that, turn off internet on the phone, delete saved WiFi passwords, and open the app. When prompted for permission to connect, deny it.

Next, import your mnemonic phrase or create a new one. If creating a new one, be sure to write it down on paper and hide it—never store it in the cloud or on a computer. This is critical for security.

If you're just storing coins, you can stop here. Transfer assets to this wallet’s address and monitor the balance via a blockchain explorer from another phone.

If transactions are needed, it gets more interesting. On a second phone with internet, open MetaMask or another hot wallet, add the cold wallet address as a watch-only wallet via QR code. The cold wallet on the phone will sign transactions, and the hot wallet will send them.

When you want to send coins: open the watch-only wallet on the hot phone, tap send, and get a QR code for offline signing. Then, on the powered-off phone, scan this QR, verify the amount and address (this is very important!), sign the transaction. On the hot phone, scan the resulting QR code and broadcast the transaction to the network.

Important point: the cold wallet on the phone only protects the mnemonic phrase from the internet but does not protect against your own mistakes. If you sign a transaction sending 20,000 USDT to a scammer’s address, it’s gone forever. Always double-check addresses and amounts before signing.

Regarding app choice—imToken is a good option, but you can try others that support offline signing. For security, use an iPhone rather than Android—it's simply a more reliable choice. Trust Wallet also works as a cold wallet if you don’t plan active transactions.

In general, a cold wallet on your phone is a compromise between convenience and security that really works. The main thing—never forget the basic rules: never connect the offline phone to the internet, store your mnemonic phrase only on paper, and always verify transaction details before signing.
