Interesting statistics recently came out — it turns out that the top countries by cryptocurrency are not quite what I expected. According to Triple-A, in 2024, there are already 562 million people worldwide actively using crypto. That’s more than 6% of the planet’s population, just so you know.

The funniest part is that the top countries by cryptocurrency are led not by the ones you might expect. India ranks first in absolute numbers — 93.5 million users, but Vietnam leads in terms of population share with 21%. The US is third in total users, but here it’s more about speculative interest. Vietnam, the Philippines, Iran — crypto is truly replacing traditional banking there.

The center of gravity is clearly shifting to Asia. India, Vietnam, Pakistan, the Philippines — it’s roughly the same story everywhere: inflation, instability of local currencies, lack of access to proper banking. Crypto there is not a hobby but a necessity. Nigeria in Africa shows a similar picture.

Even China, with its bans, has 59 million users. The top countries by cryptocurrency are clearly forming where people don’t trust traditional finance. It will be interesting to see how this looks in a couple of years.
