Do you know the story of Erik Finman? He's one of those cases that makes you rethink everything you believed about education and opportunities.
It all started in 2011 when Erik was just a 12-year-old boy, quite dissatisfied with the traditional education system. His grandmother gave him $1,000, and this is where most kids his age would have thought about video games or a new phone. But Erik Finman had a different idea: he invested almost everything in Bitcoin when it was around $12 per coin. He ended up buying nearly 83 bitcoins.
The interesting part is that while holding that position, Erik didn’t just sit back. He kept learning programming, experimenting with small digital projects. By 2013, when Bitcoin reached $1,200, his portfolio was already around $100,000. A pretty impressive number for a teenager.
But here comes the most fun part. Erik Finman made a bold bet with his parents: "If I manage to become a millionaire before I turn 18, I won’t go to college." His parents agreed, thinking it was practically impossible. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.
By 2017, with Bitcoin’s explosive price growth, Erik Finman’s portfolio surpassed $1 million. He was 18 years old. He kept his promise and, indeed, decided not to attend college in the traditional sense. Before that, he had already founded Botangle, an online education platform.
Since then, Erik has been invited to tech conferences, spoken at TEDx, and become an advisor to several crypto startups. He remains a vocal advocate of Bitcoin and financial freedom through technology. His story is a reminder that sometimes unconventional decisions, made at the right moment, can completely change your life. Not everyone can exactly replicate what Erik Finman did, but his mindset of continuous learning and willingness to take calculated risks is definitely worth considering.
