Do you want to mine cryptocurrencies with your PC from home? Here's the reality: Bitcoin on your computer is already impossible, but there are other options that remain viable if you have patience and decent hardware.

Many believe that home mining is a thing of the past, but the truth is you can still mine cryptocurrencies with a PC and generate real income. The key is choosing the right coin to target. If the volatility of investing scares you but you want to benefit from the crypto economy, a small mining operation at home could be your entry point. That said, forget about "cloud mining" – all the ones I've seen are scams.

The most popular options today are Dogecoin (DOGE) with a market cap of $14.10B, Ethereum Classic (ETC) at $1.34B, Monero (XMR) at $6.02B, and Zcash (ZEC) with $4.14B. Ravencoin (RVN), Horizen (ZEN), and Grin (GRIN) are also still mineable. Each has its ASIC-resistant algorithm, so your consumer GPU can compete.

To mine cryptocurrencies with a PC, you basically need: a wallet (download the official project), compatible mining software (CPUMiner for CPU, CGMiner or CUDAMiner for GPU), and if you want real profitability, join a mining pool. Mining alone on your PC takes too long; with a pool, you speed up payments.

Regarding profitability, with an AMD RX580 or Nvidia RTX 3080 GPU, you can generate between $15-25 daily before electricity costs. The critical factor is your energy cost. In a bull market, it hardly matters, but in a bear market, electricity eats up all your profits. A simple rule: if your state pays more than 20 cents per kWh, it probably isn't worth it.

The most practical setup is a PC with a motherboard that supports up to 8 GPUs (Windows becomes unstable with more), fans for heat dissipation, and connection to a pool. Monero, Zcash, and Bytecoin can even run on CPU, but performance is slow.

The uncomfortable truth: mining cryptocurrencies with a PC is only profitable if you have cheap electricity or buy hardware on sale. But if you're interested in the topic, now is the time to experiment before difficulty increases further. Check WhatToMine to calculate exactly how much you'd earn with your specific hardware. Some still make decent money, especially in bullish markets like the current one.
