So Black Friday 2025 just recently passed, but people are still talking about the deals that were made on November 28th. For those who don't know when Black Friday is in the USA, it's basically the day after Thanksgiving, and this year it was a total frenzy with discounts in stores.
What's interesting is that the sales started at midnight on November 28th, although most brick-and-mortar stores opened at 6 a.m. Some states recognize it as a holiday, but most businesses extended their hours to make the most of the holiday shopping. The traffic chaos in shopping centers was quite predictable, honestly.
What few people know is that the term "Black Friday" has a pretty interesting history. Back in 1869, there was a financial crisis in the United States related to gold, but the name we know today comes from Philadelphia in the 1950s, when police used it to describe the disorder that would happen after Thanksgiving. It wasn't until the 1980s that merchants turned it around: "Black" came to mean profits, not chaos.
That year, Cyber Monday also fell on December 1st, focusing entirely on online discounts. Many stores extended their promotions with what they call "Cyber Week" to prolong the sales period. The truth is, when Black Friday happens in the USA, it always creates anticipation, although now the deals stretch beyond those specific days. For the next edition, it's best to keep an eye on each brand's announcements because not all follow the same sale calendar.
