Monks should abstain from lust because monks believe that desire is the source of suffering. If they eliminate desire, they won't suffer, right? But they can't abstain from food; abstaining from food would easily lead to death, whereas abstaining from lust won't. The two fundamental human desires are appetite and sexual desire; among these, challenging sexual desire is a more reasonable approach.

Taoists shouldn't abstain from lust; following the natural way, they should practice male and female cultivation together to attain ultimate bliss.
