Today, I want to talk about not liking to send New Year greeting texts. I don’t know when it started, but mass messaging during the New Year has become a small burden in my heart. It seems like we’ve fallen into a kind of “social exhaustion.” Every year at this time, my phone fills up with elaborate parallel sentences and four-character idioms. They’re lively, but also very unfamiliar. Sometimes I don’t even have time to change the names, and a “copy and paste” greeting is sent from one person’s phone to thousands of screens.

My dislike for sending New Year greetings isn’t because I am indifferent; quite the opposite, I am increasingly valuing the weight of “connection.” I used to think that not mass sending was laziness; only later did I realize that I was afraid that flood of messages would dilute those friendships that truly deserve sincere attention. Genuine care isn’t the red dot flashing on your phone during the New Year, but even if we don’t contact each other for a year, we can still smile and ask “How have you been?” when we meet again. If I haven’t sent you a message, it’s not because I’ve forgotten you, but because I choose to keep my most sincere blessings in my heart.

In the new year, I hope we can have fewer formalities and more genuine encounters.
