Pakistan signs stablecoin cooperation agreement with WLFI affiliates to explore USD1 cross-border payment applications

【Blockchain Rhythm】The Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority of Pakistan has recently taken significant actions. On January 14, they officially signed a memorandum of understanding with SC Financial Technologies LLC, a subsidiary of World Liberty Financial. The two parties plan to collaborate on cross-border payments and digital settlements using the USD1 stablecoin.

According to the content of the memorandum, this cooperation focuses on three main areas: technical integration, experience exchange, and regulatory dialogue. It is important to note that this agreement is not yet a legally binding deployment commitment—essentially, both parties are first establishing a framework, and how USD1 will be used within Pakistan’s financial system will require further research.

SC Financial Technologies’ next step is to work with the State Bank of Pakistan and relevant regulatory authorities to explore how stablecoins can be integrated into the country’s existing compliant payment ecosystem. This gradual regulatory approach actually reflects the increasingly pragmatic attitude of many countries towards stablecoin applications—both innovating and regulating.

It's that same routine of signing a framework first and then discussing, which feels a bit hollow.

It's another memo and framework. When will it actually be implemented?

Another Memorandum of Understanding, to put it simply, there's no real progress yet. Is Pakistan really trying to develop a stablecoin ecosystem? But the USD1 project feels a bit cold. Cross-border payments are a real need, but whether it can be implemented at the framework stage... it's a bit uncertain. There are many such protocols, but the key depends on how the central bank thinks. It sounds a bit like hype, signing an agreement first and then seeing what happens. Pakistan's financial system is so complex, if USD1 can really be used, I’ll admit defeat. It all feels like just pie in the sky; when will we see actual applications? WLFI is back to cut the leeks, right? Regarding regulatory dialogue, the Pakistan Central Bank is still a bit cautious. Setting up the framework is easy, but the real challenge is in actual integration.

It's another memorandum of understanding. It sounds very formal, but it actually has no legal effect.

Pakistan is testing the waters, but it's just a memorandum of understanding, still waiting for approval from the central bank. --- USD1 cross-border payments sound promising, but I'm afraid it's just talk on paper again. --- It's another memorandum of understanding; the binding force of these things is really... not worth mentioning. --- Expanding stablecoins in South Asia definitely has potential, it all depends on whether Pakistan can truly implement it. --- A subsidiary signing an agreement—this approach is quite cautious, haha. --- The framework is set up, but there's still research to do. It feels like a long way to go, but the direction is correct. --- Cross-border payments definitely need stablecoins, but regulation is a problem. --- Is Pakistan's crypto policy recently shifting? Interesting.

Pakistan is serious about this, but the memorandum still needs further refinement. The actual implementation is probably a long way off.
