Bitcoin filled El Salvador's treasury: Huge profit

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele announced in a post he made on X that the country has gained a total of over 357 million dollars from its Bitcoin investment.

According to the screenshot shared by Bukele, El Salvador’s Bitcoin portfolio is currently over 644 million dollars compared to an initial investment of 287 million dollars. This means a profit of 124 percent, and El Salvador has made nearly 70 million dollars in paper gains from BTC investments just in 2025.

El Salvador, the first country to recognize Bitcoin as legal currency in June 2021, has continued to accumulate Bitcoin regularly since then. Bukele continues this policy despite agreements with the IMF that involve restrictions on certain cryptocurrency activities.

Under the regulations that became law in January, the acceptance of Bitcoin in the private sector has been made voluntary. However, Bukele clearly stated that he would not abandon his Bitcoin accumulation strategy. The president says, “We did not stop even when the world excluded us, and we will not stop now or in the future.”

According to the data from the El Salvador Bitcoin Office, the country has a total of 6,181 BTC.
