A Gold Finance report indicates that the office of Democratic Congressman Jason Crow is seeking an investigation by the U.S. Capitol Police into Donald Trump, due to social media posts the president made that they described as “intimidating, threatening, and concerning.” It is very rare for members of Congress to request such an investigation into a sitting president. Crow's request is a faint attempt that touches on the ambiguous and long-standing legal question of the extent to which a president is subject to normal procedures of the criminal justice system. Trump had previously posted several messages calling Democratic lawmakers “traitors,” demanding their “arrest and trial,” and declaring that they should be “locked up,” with Trump also writing about “sedition, punishable by death.” Crow stated, “After the president sent these messages, the number of calls and emails received by our congressional office containing violent rhetoric and more threats has significantly increased.”
