Just realized a lot of people don't know how to change SASSA banking details online, especially with the new payment cycles coming up. Spent some time figuring this out myself, so thought I'd share what actually works.
If you're on the SRD grant, the online process is pretty straightforward—you go to the SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they send you an SMS link. Click it, add your new bank account details, and you're done. Takes a few days for the bank to verify, but way easier than going to an office. Just make sure the account is registered in your name, nothing joint or anything.
Now, if you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), that's a different story. You actually have to visit a SASSA office in person—can't do it online. You need your ID, proof of the new bank account (bank statement or letter), and you fill out their form. They say it takes up to 21 days after that, so submit before the 15th of the month if you want it sorted for next payment.
Phone number changes are similar—SRD has an online contact portal where you can update it yourself, but permanent grants need you to call 0800 60 10 11 or go to the office. Honestly, the online option for SRD is way less of a hassle. Just be careful with the links you click—there are fake sites out there trying to catch people.
Anyone else had issues with this? The waiting times can be rough sometimes.
