March 31 Financial Frontline News: The China Association of Actuaries and the Bank Insurance Information Technology Management Co., Ltd. released relevant claims payment information for China’s new energy vehicle insurance in 2025.
In 2025, China’s insurance industry underwrote 43.58 million new energy vehicles (including 41.81 million passenger vehicles and 1.77 million cargo trucks), an increase of 12.48 million from the previous year, up 40.1%. Premium income totaled 190 billion yuan, providing risk coverage of 15.9 trillion yuan. The industry incurred underwriting losses of 5.6 billion yuan, improving by 0.1 billion yuan year over year. The combined loss ratio fell by 1.3 percentage points year over year. There were 429 vehicle model series for new energy vehicles underwritten, including 370 passenger vehicle series and 59 cargo truck series.
In 2025, there were 143 vehicle series with a claims ratio over 100% (not yet considering the daily operating and management expense costs of property and casualty insurers), up 6 from the previous year, including 106 passenger vehicle series and 37 cargo truck series.
