The number of visitors from Mainland China to Japan in the first two months of this year decreased by 54.1% year-on-year.

Data released by the Japan National Tourism Organization on March 18, from the Japanese government, showed that the number of visitors from China’s mainland to Japan fell 54.1% year over year in the first two months of this year. Of that, the number of visitors from China’s mainland to Japan in January fell 60.7% year over year, while in February it fell 45.2%. Since Japanese Prime Minister Shinjirō Takachi made erroneous remarks related to Taiwan, the number of visitors from China’s mainland to Japan has continued to decline, affecting multiple industries in Japan, including retail, accommodation, and food and beverage.
