Large Saudi petrochemical industrial facilities involving American capital are reported to have suffered widespread attacks.

ChainCatcher message: In the early hours of July 7 local time, Iran cited unnamed sources as saying that an explosion occurred that day in the Jubail Industrial Zone in Japan’s far northeast—an area where Saudi Arabia is involved with U.S. capital—and that it was carried out by a widespread strike.

The report says that the Jubail Industrial Zone is one of the world’s important petrochemical production bases. Its annual output is about 60 million tons of petrochemical products, accounting for 6% to 8% of global total production. Multiple major petrochemical companies and projects are concentrated within the zone. Among them, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation is one of the major investors in the industrial zone. In addition, the Sadara project, which involves U.S. Dow Chemical Company, as well as projects jointly invested by Saudi Aramco and France’s TotalEnergies, are also located within the industrial zone.
