On the afternoon of March 29, train D3665 traveling from Guilin North toward Zhuhai was trapped in a tunnel between Foshan and Guangzhou South Station for more than 3 hours. There was a complete power outage inside the carriages. A passenger told JiMu News reporter that it was extremely stuffy and hot inside the carriage; even a child cried from the heat, but the attendants would not let passengers get off the train or break the windows.

That afternoon, 12306 customer service replied to JiMu News reporter that the train delay was caused by heavy rain weather in Guangzhou. “Guangzhou Railway” issued an announcement stating: at around 15:00 on the 29th, the heavy rainfall and tornado affected the Nanning-Guangzhou high-speed railway and the Guiyang-Guangzhou high-speed railway between Guangzhou South and Foshan West stations, as well as the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway between Foshan and Liyuan Port, where foreign objects became caught on the overhead contact line, causing a malfunction. Some trains traveling through the area experienced delays of varying degrees. The railway authorities immediately launched an emergency response plan and carried out emergency repairs.

At 7:30 p.m. on March 29, a passenger on train D3665 told JiMu News reporter that the train resumed normal operation at 6:30 p.m. that evening. During the time the train was held up, multiple passengers were allegedly fainting. Several ambulances arrived on site and took those passengers to hospitals for treatment. The passenger also told the reporter that they had received a text message from the railway authorities stating that the rail authorities would compensate for the costs of the journey between Foshan and Guangzhou.

On the evening of the 29th, “Guangzhou Railway” issued another announcement. After the railway authorities made every effort to repair, at 18:12 on March 29 the foreign object was cleared on the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway between Foshan and Liyuan Port, and at 18:35 the foreign object was cleared on the Nanning-Guangzhou high-speed railway and the Guiyang-Guangzhou high-speed railway between Guangzhou South and Foshan West. The equipment malfunction had been resolved, and train operations are gradually recovering. Because train cancellations and delays caused inconvenience for the traveling public, the railway authorities expressed their apology.
