OpenAI releases GDPval to evaluate AI economic value task performance

PANews, September 26 - OpenAI has launched a new assessment tool called GDPval, which focuses on measuring the performance of AI in tasks related to real-world economic value. GDPval covers 44 occupations across the nine major industries that contribute most to the U.S. GDP, with tasks designed by industry experts averaging 14 years of experience. The assessment results show that the Claude Opus 4.1 model's outputs are comparable to or even better than expert levels in nearly half of the cases. OpenAI has stated that it will continue to expand the scope and details of the GDPval assessment in the future.
