【Coin Circle】Two executives from a16z Crypto recently sounded an alarm for crypto developers.

General Partner Arianna Simpson highlighted a phenomenon: aside from stablecoins and underlying infrastructure, most well-performing crypto companies these days are crowding into the trading platform business. It sounds good, but the problem is——this homogeneous competition is far too intense. The result is that the attention of most enterprises is severely fragmented, with only a few real winners surviving in the end.

Simpson’s advice is straightforward: founders rushing to pivot toward trading business may be missing a bigger opportunity——building truly defensible, long-term sustainable businesses. In other words, developers who focus on perfecting the product itself rather than simply stacking trading features may actually become the ultimate winners. This logic seems somewhat counterintuitive, but it often holds true in sufficiently competitive markets.

On the other hand, Miles Jennings, a16z Crypto’s policy team and general counsel, has turned his attention to the regulatory side. He emphasizes that developers must put regulatory compliance on their agenda. More critically, the Trump administration is now closer than ever to passing a crypto market structure regulation bill. If this bill actually becomes law, what would the impact be? Incentivizing transparency, establishing clear standards, creating clear pathways for fundraising and token issuance, laying a solid foundation for decentralized applications development. In other words, this could be the long-awaited policy-friendly window the crypto industry has been waiting for.
